Rainy Season

I recently had lunch with a group of 14 individuals and one of them was a solid Christian man named Andrew from Sierra Leone in West Africa.  We were celebrating Andrew's presence with us for the Summer as he'll soon return to Sierra Leone.

Andrew educated us a bit that there are 2 seasons in Sierra Leone.

Rainy Season

Dry Season

Rainy Season - nature at its fullest, greens, growth, plentiful.
Dry Season - dusty, sapped, rainless, parched, drained.

I've thought about these 2 Seasons over the last several days and discovered how relative these Seasons are to my own spiritual life.

I've had plenty of spiritual growth aka RAINY SEASON in my Christian walk in Sunday School, Worship, Youth Group, Youth Retreats, Church Camp, Emmaus Walk, Christian Concerts/Conferences.

BUT, I have also had plenty of DRY SEASONS in my Christian Life.  Not because God was not present, but because I failed to open the Scriptures, or pray or fully rely on God; Times I knew God was present, but I felt "dusty, sapped, rainless, parched and drained.

Can you relate?  Have you been in both seasons of GREAT JOY and GREAT DARKNESS

Psalm 77:1-2 was a plea to God that I related to in GREAT DARKNESS.  Read along with me.

1 I cried out to God for help;
    I cried out to God to hear me.

2 When I was in distress, I sought the Lord;
    at night I stretched out untiring hands,
    and I would not be comforted.

Now read along with me a Psalm passage about GREAT JOY:
Psalm 126:2-6

2   Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy.    Then it was said among the nations, “The LORD has done great things   for them.”
3   The LORD has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy.
4   Restore our fortunes,LORD, like streams in the Negev.
5   Those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy.
6   Those who go out weeping, carrying seed to sow, will return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with them.

Where do I CHOOSE to rest?  I CHOOSE . . . GREAT JOY.  Even in my darkest, I shall turn to God and trust that He is faithful as He always has been.

What do you CHOOSE this day?  Rest in the Lord and His eternal love for you.
